Santorum Scores In The Bayou

The former Pennsylvania senator, Rick Santorum, scored a very impressive win in the GOP Louisiana primary, taking 49% of the vote over the former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney's 27%.
And once again, Mr. Romney took the one solid urban area, Orleans parish, and Mr. Santorum took all the other parishes (counties).
Look at this map for that info.
But something interesting took place for Mr. Santorum this time.
According to the CNN exit poll, Mr. Santorum has taken some of Mr. Romney's natural vote of people making over $100,000 a year. And he scored a majority of voters that think the budget deficit and the economy are major issues.
Now that means that Mr. Santorum is making inroads out of the social conservative box that he, to some extent, put himself in.
And needless to say that is going to sort of hurt Romney moving forward.
But this maybe the last state Mr. Santorum can score such a victory. The rest of the states are favorable to Mr. Romney as we start looking at big states as California, New York and Texas.
But Mr. Santorum can and should savor this big win in the bayou.
