Defense Budget Slashed In Time Of War

It is truly amazing that with the United States fighting a two-front war and the possibility of more to come, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced a round of cuts in the defense budget that has to leave our enemies scratching their heads and lying in wait to cause more harm to the United States and its interests around the world.
A positive step is facing the reality that the United States will be fighting unconventional warfare in the War Against Islamofacist Terror (no matter what the Obama administration wants to call it). And some of the budget calls for beefing up special forces and the tools to help them in their yet undefined roles.
But, the real cuts are to the high-tech weapons that have and will continue to be the bulwark of keeping the United States safe now and in the future.
Because of President Obama's reflexive attitude about a missile shield program, funding for that will face the budget ax. President Obama and his allies do not believe in a missile defense shield. They have been derisive of it since President Reagan announced his vision over 25 years ago. Because of such ideas that it is not realistic, the left has fought funding for it from the get-go. And now with the most left-wing president in Barack Hussein Obama-we can say the middle name once again-the eventuality is that the program will be a poorly funded as possible.
Oh, and that comes on the North Korean missile launch of the Taepondong 2 long range missile. Thankfully, it did not go as far as thought, but the 1,900 miles it did go doubles the last test and puts Japan right in range of a potential nuclear attack. Nice going Mr. Gates and President Obama!
Also facing the ax is the F-22 fighter jet. Oh, and Lockheed Martin says only about 90,000 jobs will be lost. Again, nice going Mr. Gates and President Obama!
The irony is that under a left-wing administration they will attack all the "waste" that they accuse the Pentagon of, yet will increase the funding of all sorts of government programs that will face not a bit of scrutiny that the Pentagon will in the next three and a half years of the Obama administration.
What is needed is a real bipartisan consensus on three fronts.
How the military will fight the War Against Islamofacist Terror and provide them with all the tools that they need.
And that there will still be conventional wars that the United States will have the potential to fight.
Most importantly is that there will be a rouge state such as North Korea and more than likely Iran try to launch a nuclear weapon. Developing some kind of missile defense shield is not some partisan game. It is vital to the national security of the United States and it allies.
Trying to make serious cuts that Mr. Gates and President Obama propose are not the way to go in a time of war. What is important is that these two men really seek a bipartisan solution rather than the game we are seeing with the politicians in Washington.

War Against Islamofacist Terror

Hey, that's pretty catchy. And it yields a very good acronym - WAIT.

You seem to be turgid for some more wars, both conventional and 'other.'

You also seem to be well below the expanded age limit for joining the military.

How about acting on the courage of your convictions? Sign up. Your country needs you, and you'd probably lose a few pounds in the bargain.

Win/Win

Actually it's not the "War on Terror" anymore because Obama waived his magic wand and proclaimed the WOT as the "Overseas Contingency Operation". Kinda catchy isn't it? Should have them Islamofacist's shaking in their boots. I don't think Obama could make Don Knott's shake.

If we could weaponize all of the venom emanating from RWS I think we could probably cut the military budget in half.

By the way, the old canard about joining the military if you believe in protecting the country is getting a little tired. That's like saying because I don't want my family murdered I should become a cop.

On the contrary. Those agitating most vigorously should be the first to step up to the plate.

Otherwise, it's just empty posturing - something wingnuts are very good at doing.

How do you know that he didn't try? And what if they won't accept you because of physical disability? Does that mean he has to shut up or does he have to scan in the rejection letter for your approval of his right to free speech? My father and his three brothers all went military, but I was deaf in one ear so they rejected me. My son is in the Army and he's glad to be getting out. It seems that Democratic presidents see the military as being the first, best place to cut the budget.

So in other words, those of us no longer of military age should just shut up? Nothing doing.

It's gotta be the original, brought up from the vault. No copies.

My son is in the Army and he's glad to be getting out.

Why does your son hate America?

those of us no longer of military age should just shut up?

No, it's fine. You don't say anything anyway.

Hey, we can cut back on funding because ... wait for it ... Talk is cheap! ;)

All we gotta do is "talk" to the Koreans, the Iranians, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, enemies far and wide. How much money does that cost?

Let's save that money for stuff like pre-kindergarten, weaning people off of private health insurance and funding ACORN.

You might want to read your own posts. It's nice to know we have a rational defender of civil debate among us.

I can remember more mature discourse on the playground.
